Boys Freshman Volleyball

Coach Brad Hekekia was born and raised in the Gila Valley and attended Thatcher High where he competed in football, basketball, track, and tennis, as well as playing the trumpet in the marching band. His first coaching experience in 1995-96 came under the tutelage of his father Jerry Hekekia—an AVCA Coach of the Year recipient—at Eastern Arizona College. It wasn’t until 2010 that Brad returned to coaching the sport as he had an opportunity to be an assistant for his daughter's 13U club team. Brad simultaneously coached Arrowhead's 18U Championship division team and won the 2011 season championship. After several years away, Brad returned again with another opportunity to coach his youngest daughter’s 8th grade team in 2018. With a philosophy of teaching fundamentals to the individual student-athlete at all age groups and developing younger teams through playing experience, Coach Hekekia believes girls will be prepared to compete at the Varsity level. “I have watched ALA Queen Creek’s program improve over the last few years. I’m fortunate to inherit a program with strong student-athletes, a supportive school administration, and supportive and involved parents. I will continue to strengthen this program as my staff and I will focus on the technical aspects of ball control and serving. We have athletes who can sufficiently put away a ball. Our improved ball control will give them a good opportunity to succeed. I expect a complete buy-in to this program from the players and their parents. Volleyball is a sport, but it can be an art form and a medium for developing these young ladies into humble, assertive, and all-around good individuals. And that’s what really matters."
