NCAA Initial-Eligibility Rules
NCAA initial-eligibility rules for D1 Qualifying status have recently changed and are in place for each graduating class. Please see table (download pdf) of the rules for the three current classes (2016-2018). It's important to understand that juniors are required to meet the 10/7, "prior to their senior year", core course credit requirements. The class of 2016 must meet the new credit requirements and maintain their ability to attain DI Qualifier status to play college sports as a freshman. For the current sophomore class, the new 2018 rules for DII have begun. They must attain a higher minimum core course GPA and are also the first class required to use the new DII sliding scales to meet minimum test standards for the SAT or ACT. New Athletic Grade Eligibility Policy
The ALA QCHS campus is changing the grade eligibility policy for student-athletes. Every two weeks grades will be pulled by the athletic department. Any student-athlete with an F, in any class, or below a 2.0gpa will NOT be permitted to compete in any games, meets or matches (athlete is still eligible to practice) until the next grade pull. There will no longer be a warning period in which student-athletes can fix their grades before the final grade pull. This change is intended to help student-athletes take more responsibility for their grades and to open up lines of communication with their teachers. It is the athlete's responsibility to know when grade pulls will take place and communicate & resolve grade issues, with their teachers, beforehand ie: test re-takes, missed work because of absence, grading of late work, etc. Coaches will not be able to clear an athlete to play if they are ineligible because of grades.
